Open position at a rapidly growing medical device company

Dear Fellow Engineer,

Welcome! We’re a grant-and-privately-funded medical device startup company spun off from the University of Hong Kong. Our founders are biomedical engineers and orthopaedic surgeons from MIT and Queen Mary Hospital. We are on a mission to radically improve the way that bone fracture repair implants are designed for elderly patients with osteoporosis – a disease that affects over 250 million people worldwide. The first product from our R&D pipeline, the Lifespans Soft Hip Implant, is currently undergoing US FDA/CE registration review as a Class II / 510(k) device. Our other products in development include safer and more effective implants for fractures of the spine and extremities in elderly patients, as well as a novel computer simulation platform for predicting implant performance based on CT images.We are searching for a full-time biomedical engineer to join our medical device research and development team. A description of the position is as follows:

Company:       Lifespans – a privately-financed medical device startup developing neworthopaedic implants for elderly patients

Location:        Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong Island

Position:         Biomedical Engineer (Junior to Senior positions available, depending on experience)

Role:               Development of orthopaedic implants: including needs assessment with surgeons and patients, development and implementation of biomechanical and biological testing protocols, implant design and maintenance of design controls documentation.

Education:      Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biomedical / mechanical engineering or related subject

Experience:    Position requires 2+ years of design engineering and manufacturing experience, especially product usability and safety testing.

Salary:            HK20,000 – 40,000/month commensurate with experience
