Salary: Training Pay Scale Point 4 ($16,510 per month) to Training Pay Scale Point 6 ($18,730 per month)
Entry Requirements:
Candidates should have (a)(i) a Certificate in Mechanical Engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university or the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/technical institute/technical college, or equivalent (Note 1); or (ii) Level 3 or above in Mathematics and Level 2 or equivalent or above in four other subjects (Note 2, 3) including Physics or Combined Science (Physics & Chemistry with the Physics component at Level 2 or above) or Combined Science (Physics & Biology with the Physics component at Level 2 or above) or Integrated Science in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; or (iii) Grade C or above in Mathematics and Level 2 / Grade E or above in four other subjects (Note 3, 4) including Physics in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; (b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent (Note 4); and (c) a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST) (Note 5). (All entry requirements should be met on or before the closing date for application. Entry Requirements (a)(i) and (c) met after the closing date for application may be considered (see Notes 1 and 5).)
Duties:
A Technical Officer Trainee (Mechanical) is required to undergo training for a period of three years and is mainly deployed on preparing of mechanical engineering drawings, production of sketches and record drawings, carrying out simple engineering calculations and occasional site engineering measurements and work with computer and computer aided drafting systems.
(He/she may be required to work in remote areas, work irregular hours or shifts.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. (i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. If they are selected, their appointment will be subject to their successful obtaining the requisite qualifications under item (a)(i) of the Entry Requirements above within seven months from the closing date for application. (2) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(3) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(4) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(5) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the BLNST is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only candidates who have passed the BLNST will be considered for appointment. Candidates who have not taken the relevant BLNST or have not attained a pass result in the relevant BLNST at the time of application, may still apply for the job as arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant BLNST during the recruitment process.
