[For Research Project "Quantifying the Impact of Limit Order Book Transparency on Trading Profitability” (Project No. R6232)]

Duties

The appointee will be responsible for the conversion of stock market data into a MySQL database, data collection from the Internet, and other programming tasks under the supervision of the investigator. He/she will also be required to provide assistance in other areas related to the research project.

Requirements

Applicants should preferably have a recognized higher degree in computing or related area and possess at least one of the following skills:

1. The ability to convert CSV data into a MySQL database and create advanced SQL queries.

2. Good programming skill with Python or Java and the capability of constructing interactive graphical user interface.

3. Collecting information from Websites via a Web scrapping tool.

4. Implementing artificial intelligent and machine learning algorithms.

The candidate should be willing to learn new technologies and able to work independently. Knowledge in stock market is preferable but not essential. Consideration will be given to applicants who do not have a higher degree but with relevant experience for the post of Research Support Assistant.

 

Terms of Appointment

There are a number of vacancies for this position. Appointment will initially be made starting from May 2018 until all vacancies are filled.  Successful candidate will be appointed on a temporary part-time fixed term contract.  He/she shall be required to work not more than 17 hours per week during the period of his/her appointment.  The working days and hours shall be agreed between the appointee and the project investigator.  Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions, if applicable.
