Senior Biomedical or Mechanical Engineer

Company:  Lifespans, Ltd. – a privately-financed medical device startup (~12 staff)

Location:  Main office in Hong Kong Island (near Wong Chuk Hang Station on the MTR South Island Line); Biomechanical laboratory at HKU Laboratory Block (Pok Fu Lam). Partial work-from-home acceptable.

Position:  Senior Biomedical or Mechanical Engineer (Full-time)

Role:  Collaborate with our team of surgeons and engineers to create new bone screws, nails, plates and surgical instruments for clinical use.  This role combines project management with hand-on engineering, and reports to the Chief Scientific Officer. Responsible for start-to-finish design of innovative orthopaedic implants for elderly patients, including: (1) Conducting clinical needs assessment; (2) Designing product prototypes; (3) Performing mechanical testing;  (4) Working with FDA-licensed contract manufacturers, and; (5) Managing project timelines/budgets.

Education:  BS / MS / PhD in engineering (biomedical, mechanical, or comparable discipline)

Experience:  At least 2+ years of experience as a design engineer for biomedical products or complex consumer products, preferably with international firms. Experienced academics are also welcome to apply. Fluent technical communication in English is required for this role. Technical communication skills in other languages (Chinese, German, etc.) are a plus.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience (HK$35,000 - 60,000 per month starting range), plus annual bonus, health insurance, and additional paid leave above statutory minimums including maternity/paternity/etc.
